Satori Elementary School now holds the title of Galveston’s first solar-powered school, thanks to members of the Big Texas Sun Club®. The parent coöperative school for Kindergarten through 5th graders received a 2.8 kilowatt (kW) solar array that will allow the facility to run partially on clean solar power. The array will help offset 7,300 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually— the equivalent of not driving 8,100 miles. An online monitoring system will show how much solar power the school receives each day, educating students and the community about the benefits of renewable energy.
